Hair Transplantation Is Not an Exact Science, So You Need an Expert

If you are suffering from thinning hair and are considering a hair transplant, you are not alone. Quite a large percentage of the population does – both men and women. That’s true not only in San Francisco but also in San Mateo, Palo Alto and – in fact- pretty much anywhere around the world. Humans and hair loss – we go together. You need to see an expert for a hair transplant.

Now there are different methods of hair transplant, one of which is FUE transplantation. As with many things, the hair transplant sector has its’ own acronyms, but FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. What that means is that in this method the hair follicles are removed from the donor site in groups as tiny as one to four and these are then transplanted into the recipient site.

However, if you are thinking that this is done by a hair transplant surgeon with a couple of needles and scissors, think again. FUE hair transplantation is done by a robot! Call it AI. Call it a computer. It’s the same thing. What is important is that it can result in far better-looking hair in the balding area than if done manually by a surgeon.

This Is What We Do

And this is what we do at Silicon Valley Hair Institute in Foster City. Our robot, known as the ARTAS robot, does just what we said above, and it has many benefits.

Look at it this way: if you have a manual hair transplant, the surgeon will remove a strip of hair from the back of your head which he then cuts into tiny pieces in order to transplant them into the recipient area. Unfortunately, in the place where the strip of hair was removed, you will have a scar. This cannot be helped. It is not important if you wear your hair reasonably long, but if you want to wear it short, that scar will show.

By contrast, the ARTAS robot leaves no visible scar whatsoever. The tiny hair follicles that are removed for transplant are so small that the scar cannot be seen by the naked eye.

The ARTAS robot is also extremely accurate, placing the hair follicles in the recipient area precisely to match any existing hairs already there in angle, height, and direction. This provides a much better appearance than can be achieved manually. Furthermore, the robot doesn’t get tired. When a hair transplant surgeon is working manually, it is only human to begin to tire over a period of hours and this can result in errors. The ARTAS robot doesn’t make errors.

There are other benefits, too, such as the fact that you won’t need to have any downtime after the transplant.
