Many People Think Women Don’t Suffer Hair Loss, but They Can

Many people think that it is only men who go bald, and to some extent that is true. You certainly do see a lot of men with balding areas on their heads, and you also see many who are completely bald. However, hair loss in women is also quite common, but it does not usually extend to having bald areas, but rather, thinning areas on top of the head. Many people think that hair loss is something that is suffered by a lot of men, but it can happen to women too, and can be a source of deep embarrassment.

Now, losing hair is something that we all do. Each hair has its’ life cycle and when it reaches the end of the cycle it will drop out and then be replaced by another hair. It is common to lose 100 hairs in a day. But it is also common for a hair to drop out and not be replaced, and this is what starts the process of thinning hair.

Many men here in the Bay Area who have bald spots simply don’t worry about it. They regard it as “just one of those things” and carry on regardless. But thinning hair for women can be a source of shame. Not that there is anything to be ashamed about, but unfortunately this is the way that it affects them.

We Have Several Treatments

Fortunately, at Silicon Valley Hair Institute, we have several treatments for hair loss in women. The Women’s Hair Loss Protocol® is only available at our office in Foster City. We begin your consultation with an HD Hair Dermoscopy in order to assess the extent of your hair loss and make a decision on the best course of action for your individual situation. We will produce a personalized hair treatment program, and this may include treatments such as our EPIC® procedure which consists of epidermal infusion of hair medications and supplements.

We might also recommend a robotic hair transplant, using the ARTAS robot which was designed and produced by a team led by our Dr. Miguel Canales himself. Low level light therapy is another procedure, as is FUT transplantation.

Another procedure that we can offer is eyebrow transplantation. Hair loss in women can include that of the eyebrows. Quite a number of women suffer from it, and it can be for one of several reasons. This can also be an embarrassment for women, and for men as well. Eyebrow transplantation is similar to other hair transplant techniques performed on the scalp but requires an expert to carry out the work because the hair of the eyebrows changes direction quite dramatically in different areas.

Every patient is unique, so if you are a woman suffering from hair loss reach out to Dr. Canales for a free consultation.
